U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe of Tulsa was in Addis Ababa last week. Inhofe is a frequent visitor of the country.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Senator and his delegation held talks with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
According to the ministry’s website, the Prime Minister expressed Ethiopia`s desire to further strengthen its relations with the new administration of the United States particularly in trade and investment.
Senator Inhofe was said to have described Ethiopia as an ally of the US in the area of security in the Horn of Africa region, and assured the Prime Minister that relations would be further strengthened under President Trump.
However, what the report didn’t mention was that in the past two decades, Sen. Jim Inhofe has made several trips to Ethiopia and Uganda as part of a mission that he frequently describes in religious terms. Inhofe referred to those trips publicly as “a Jesus thing”.
Since his first trip in 1998, Inhofe has visited the continent an average of twice a year. He has said that he has probably visited the continent more than any U.S. senator in history.
