An emerging Ethiopian photographer is exhibiting his works at La Gacilly, a western French town reputed for its annual outdoor photo festival. Girma Berta, a 26-year-old Addis-based artist, is one of the African photographers featured in the summer photo festival, along with prominent figures Malians Seydou Keïta, Malick Sidibé, Senegalese Mama Casset and Oumar Ly.
Girma’s works on view are portraits and scenes captured with his iPhone in Addis Ababa, and fused with artworks exemplifying the contrasting colours and personalities. As part of Moving Shadows series, the works have been exhibited nationally and internationally at many galleries and museums such as Red Hook Labs New York, Cape Town Art Fair, PhotoVille New York, Look Festival, 1:54 Contemporary Art Fair London, and Bamako Photo Fest.
La Gacilly exhibition on view through September 30, 2017.
