Neway Gebreab loses bid to become commissioner for Economic Affairs of the AUC

Neway Gebreab, an Ethiopian candidate, failed in his bid to become the new commissioner for Economic Affairs of the African Union Commission (AUC) after losing to Madagascar’s Victor Harison. Neway, who has served in different government positions for the past 24 years, including as chief economic advisor had the support of the Ethiopian government. Other contenders were Djibouti’s Yacin Elmi Bouh, and Cameroon’s Marte Chantal Mbajo. Similarly, Cameroon’s Sarah Anyang Agbor elected commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology.
