Kenya’s Geoffrey Kirui wins men’s marathon

Kenya’s Geoffrey Kirui won the London World Championship on Sunday, pulling away from Ethiopian Tamirat Tola to win a time of 2hr 8min 37sec.Kirui won the men’s marathon with a come-from-behind run finishing on Tower Bridge.
Tamirat Tola took the lead near the halfway point of the race at the world championships but Geoffrey Kirui caught him at 35km in 1:46:11 and went clear himself.
The 25-year-old Tamrat completed second in two hours, nine minutes and 49 seconds, with Alphonce Simbu close third in 2:09:51. Tamrat was the winner of Dubai Marathon on January and a half-marathon in Prague. He also came third in Rio Olympics.
