Seven killed at Kobo protest

Seven people have been killed in the northern town of Kobo after security forces fired on a crowd who were reportedly protesting Saturday’s killings in the nearby Woldia town, the Voice of America’s Amharic service reported. A ten-year-old boy and two members of the defence forces are among those killed, according to the report. Many more were injured in the incident in the town. Protesters gathered around the town’s police station to condemn security forces brutality at a religious ceremony in Woldia town and not being held accountable in a court of law. The protesters also demanded the release of several prisoners when security forces moved swiftly, dispersing the march with teargas, a witness said. Protesters have destroyed a number of properties, businesses, municipality office, vehicles and farms. Videos and pictures posted on social media also showed that helicopters circling over the town.
