An outspoken university lecturer and blogger Seyoum Teshome arrested

Ethiopian authorities have arrested an outspoken university lecturer and a blogger Seyoum Teshome in Wolisso town, 114kms west of Addis Ababa today. Seyoum, a teacher at Ambo University in Wolisso campus, was picked up at his house by armed federal patrols and taken to Addis Ababa during the early hours of Thursday, according to media reports. No official reason is given for the arrest yet many feel he is the latest victim of the arrests linked to anti-government protests roiling the country, several weeks after the declaration of state of emergency. The emergency decree gave security forces sweeping powers to make arrests, curtailed the authority of the judiciary. Seyoum runs a blog, EthioThinkTank, that discusses current issues and the human rights situation in the country. In October 2016, Seyoum was arrested on unclear charges, and held for two months before being released.
