Against Gravity: An exhibition by eight emerging Ethiopian photographers

Center for Photography in Ethiopia announces the latest exhibition titled ‘Against Gravity’  which will run from 25 September to 24 October focusing on Identity, change and people, according to a press release. Eight emerging Ethiopian photographers, Abdi Bekele, Addis Aemero, Bemnet Fekadu, Brook Getachew, Firehiwot Gebrealu, Meseret Argaw, Obsa Zerihun and Solomon Nigus would show their photography works, the statement said.

“The exhibition is an output of a mentorship program led by Michael Tsegaye, an established Ethiopian photographer based in Addis Ababa,” according to the press release. “Through the program, photographers were supported with an individual, group and peer to peer meetings in addition to the provision of critical reference materials. With the help of discussions, presentations, and critiques sessions, photographers explored the theme of identity, urban spaces, urban change, tradition and movement through different documentary and conceptual approaches involving self portraits, street seen, interiors, cityscapes etc..”

Against Gravity showcases a collection of images presented through installations, video and frames discussing and questioning the past, the present and the future of the city and the country in general. This exhibition is an extension of a presentation by Maheder Haileselassie, Abdi Bekele and Addis Aemero at RAY festival in Germany in May 2018, the statement reads.
