Rockets hit Bahir Dar and Gondar towns

The Ethiopian government said rockets fell in the vicinity of Bahir Dar airport and in Azezo parts of Gondar last night.

A new Facebook page managed by the Prime Minister’s Office disclosed that the rockets attack caused minor damage near the Bahir Dar airport. The Office blamed the ruling party in Tigray, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). “The TPLF junta is utilising the last of the weaponry within its arsenals,” the statement reads.

Residents in Bahir Dar and Gondar reported that heavy gunfire and explosions around 11 pm on Friday night, adding that there was confusion among the residents until the Amhara regional government issued a statement on the incident.

The Amhara Regional State Communication Office announced that there were explosions in Bahir Dar town, in the area commonly known as Mekod, and Gondar town, Azezo. According to the regional government, “the situation was controlled within a few minutes.”

In some areas of the Bahir Dar city, there was a power outage following the explosion, residents said.

TPLF in a statement on Saturday said “it had struck military camps in Gondar and Bahir Dar in response to the military attack launched by the fascist Abiy administration against the Tigray region.”
