Rockets hit Bahir Dar for 3rd time
  • TPLF troops had destroyed Axum’s airport-Ethiopian gov’t

Three rockets exploded around Bahir Dar city, the capital of Amhara region, residents said, in the third such attack since the start of the conflict between Ethiopia’s military and forces backing the leadership in the Tigray region.

On Monday morning, residents of Bahir Dar reported hearing loud explosions, amid reports of rockets landing around the city. Neither the regional government nor the regional media have commented on the matter. Tigray’s region’s governing party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) confirmed on its regional media it fired the rockets at Bahir Dar, aiming at the airport. Information about damage or deaths was not available.

On November 13 and November 20, Tigray fired rockets at Bahir Dar, and Thursday’s attack was the third since the launch of the conflict. Three rockets were also fired at Eritrea’s capital, Asmara on November 14.

Forces of TPLF have reportedly destroyed an airport in the ancient town of Axum. State-affiliated broadcaster Fana said on Monday “the unresponsive TPLF junta which could not care about the people and the country, has plowed and destroyed the airport.” TPLF’s leader Debretsion Gebremichael denied this, saying obstacles had been put up to block advances by the Ethiopian military, according to the Reuters.
